Hello, dear readers! This is Janelle Nightingale, and I am thrilled to share with you a new chapter of our journey. This week, my 16-year-old and I are packing our bags and embarking on an unforgettable adventure, an adventure with a purpose. We are heading to Uganda on behalf of Agri Planet Africa, a remarkable organization with a mission to empower communities through education and training in permaculture best practices, commodity production, entrepreneurship, and leadership.
Our journey begins with a series of flights that will take us from our home in Oklahoma City, through several cities including Dallas, Washington D.C., and Istanbul, and ultimately to our final destination: Uganda. The journey is long, but we’re filled with anticipation for the adventures and experiences that await us.
The excitement is palpable. We’re eagerly awaiting the moment when we’ll be met by local friends and colleagues who will escort us to our first stop in Uganda: the Kyangwali Refugee Settlement. Our subsequent days will be spent touring local schools, participating in community activities, and contributing to the incredible work that Agri Planet Africa is doing in the region.
However, our journey also carries a sense of gravity. Just a few days ago, a tragic event unfolded in Uganda when rebels attacked a school, resulting in the loss of many lives. Our hearts go out to the families affected by this horrific event. These are the communities we strive to support, the children we aim to empower. As we prepare for our journey, we carry them in our thoughts and our resolve to make a positive impact is only strengthened.
Our journey is not all work. We’ll be exploring the natural beauty of Uganda, visiting a forest reserve, and embarking on a safari. We’ll spend time in local towns, immersing ourselves in the culture, before returning to continue our work in Kyangwali. Our final days in Uganda will be spent visiting spiritual centers, exploring cities, and enjoying the tranquility of the local landscape.
As we embark on this journey, I look forward to sharing our experiences with you. We are excited, we are ready, and we are committed. We’re venturing into the heart of Africa, carrying a mission of empowerment, education, and sustainable growth. We’re doing this not just for ourselves, but for the people of Uganda, and for the vision of a stronger, sustainable future that Agri Planet Africa represents.
We look forward to keeping you updated every step of the way. Until our next post, keep us in your thoughts as we journey into this new chapter of adventure, excitement, and compassion.
With love,
Janelle Nightingale and my adventurous 16-year-old.
