It’s easy to forget that the people of Ukraine are still at war and under attack. The conflict can often slip out of our minds, yet it has been ongoing since 2022 with no end in sight. There is a horrific human cost to this tragedy – thousands of civilians have been killed and injured, many more uprooted from their homes, and still, others suffer from the toxic legacy of burned cities, displaced and poverty-stricken children and adults.
“It takes courage and compassion to fight for human rights in times of conflict. We must stand with the people of Ukraine and do our part to end this crisis.”
– Barack Obama
The conflict grows worse through continued Russian involvement. The country’s army sent troops, military vehicles, and heavy equipment across the border into Ukraine on February 24, 2022, to the present. Russia also controls parts of eastern Ukraine, where there are reports of human rights abuses perpetrated by their security forces against civilian protesters.
“The most powerful weapon on earth is the human soul on fire.”
– Ferdinand Foch
We need to remember that the people in Ukraine are still suffering due to this conflict, even if it doesn’t make news headlines every day. We must show our support for Ukraine – #SupportUkraine #NeverForget. Another way is to donate funds to organizations supporting the people of Ukraine:
- United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
- Save the Children
- International Red Cross
- Doctors Without Borders
“Peace is not only better than war, but infinitely more arduous.”
– George Bernard Shaw
We must continue to pressure Moscow to abide by international agreements and withdraw from Ukraine’s territory immediately. Only then will peace be restored, allowing the people of this beautiful country to rebuild their lives after this devastating conflict.
